The one with those epic bridesmaid dresses | Essex Wedding Photographer
I’ve been unable to shoot weddings for what seems like forever, (ok, ok, 16 months, but who’s counting?!) so I cannot tell you how happy it makes me to be back behind my camera. We are talking kid at Christmas type excited. Times 1000. I’m not even going to lie, that doesn’t even come close, and my kids get *super* excited for Christmas, so…
Anyway, my point being I am REALLY, REALLY happy to be back and there is something so blooming triumphant about getting to capture weddings that were meant to happen last year and had to be postponed. I can’t help but feel I should be doing a little victory dance for you all every time one of my couples finally gets to say “I do!”
Well, last weekend I got to photograph an absolutely EPIC wedding. Yep. Epic. Not a word I usually brandish about but this one was a hell of a lot of fun! Katie and Ross had been due to get married last April, but we all know what happened there…fast forward to present day and this amazing couple finally got the wedding they’d dreamed of at the wonderful Blake Hall.
Katie looked incredible in a Clifford Burr bridal gown and the flowers, which (insert incredibly impressed face here) were created by Ross’ Mum and were a perfect match for the bridesmaid dresses. Talking of bridesmaid dresses…OMG, Asos for the win with those beauties! Not only were they an utterly gorgeous colour but they had some of the prettiest floral embroidery I’ve come across, I honestly almost did an impromptu search for one in my size!
Unfortunately, Covid did rear its ugly head in one respect. Ross’ brother was unable to travel to the UK from Australia due to remaining restrictions, however, not one to let a few thousand miles get in the way of his Best Man duties, he prepared a speech in advance which was read at the reception on his behalf.
We did have to dodge the odd rain shower, well of course we did, hello English summer, but it soon dried out enough for a round of garden games after the meal. Plus, there was dancing! Oh yes, *finally* there was dancing, and a live band (who were amazing, by the way) and did I mention dancing? I can’t tell you how fabulous it was to see people listening to live music and just enjoying the company of their loved ones without any of the previous restrictions the last year threw at us.
So yes, a beautiful bride, her wonderful groom, bridesmaid dresses to die for, a fantastic venue with games and music, and an amazing group of chilled people, who just really embraced finally getting to celebrate this day. Like I said. Epic.
Congratulations, Katie and Ross! A massive thank you for choosing me to share your day. I had an absolute ball! Here’s to your new life as Mr and Mrs!

All about: Blake Hall Wedding Venue Essex
It's no secret that Blake Hall is one of my favourite Essex Barn Wedding Venues. Blake Hall is situated in Ongar, with close links to the M11 & M25 but set within 60 acres of beautiful gardens & woodlands you feel like you're in the middle of nowhere. It has an awesome team of staff, everything is onsite and its one of the very few Essex venues that works just as well in all weathers and seasons.
Blake Hall has 2 large barns and an outdoor saddlery for garden ceremonies. Receptions take place in the original Essex barn, with indoor ceremonies in the new Hay Barn, hands down one of the most beautiful ceremony locations in Essex with its floor to ceiling windows.
With everything being so close together, wedding days flow effortlessly and naturally. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff here and they are one of the best teams to work with so you can be safe in the knowledge your day will run perfectly.
