Charlotte & Dan's epic wedding!
There are some weddings which I think will live in my memory for ever more and Charlotte & Dan's summer marquee wedding was absolutely one of them. There was epic bouquets, incredible cakes, goats, the most party filled wedding meal I've ever seen, speeches that made the entire room cry and a party to end all parties. When they said they wanted a chilled party of a day they certainly got what they wanted. Read on to see one of my all time favourite weddings!
How did you meet?
We met through mutual friends in 2012 and became an item in 2013. We got engaged in New York in February 2016. Dan proposed on a horse and carriage ride around Central Park - a total surprise. We booked the wedding for the next year, so a 15 month engagement.
What was your inspiration for the day?
The style of the day was inspired by both Dan and I, we went for a lavish bohemian theme. Dan is the smart / extravagant half and I am the gypsy/ free spirited half. We had gold candelabras with waterfalls of bright flowers. Animals also played a big part in our day. Dan and I own goats and all the table names were our pets.
Dress // Eglantine creations from Abigails Collection, Colchester
The dress was perfect for the boho style, staying glam. I even added lights in the dress for the evening to bring alive the gypsy element. Dan went for a classic Tux from Next. My shoes were sparkly pink Jimmy Choo. So in love with them, what’s not to love! They were very comfortable. Not overly high as I didn’t want to tower over dan. Dan wore Russel and Bromley shoes.
I had 7 Bridesmaids they were in short gold bardo lace tea dresses, this tied in the lux gold and lace of the dream catchers and the lace detail of my dress. They wore gold sparkly Kurt Geiger sandals. They all looked amazing!
“We looked at different photographers at wedding fayres but found you and your photographs stood out to me as they were soft, natural and contemporary, compared to others which I found old fashioned and posed. I would 100% recommend you and have been to friends. You were so down to earth but professional and captured the feeling of the whole day as images. We didn’t choose to have a videographer which I thought I would regret but the images you captured managed to perfectly tell the story.”
My mum was my florist. She captured perfectly the look I was going for, I wanted big bold bright undefined slightly unruly different from the norm. The flowers looked incredible, I still to this day don’t think she realises how amazing they really were. They were perfect in every bouquet and display.
The cake was made by me, my mother in law and my cousin Rachel. It was covered in bright sugar paste flowers. I also had a dessert table which other friends and family contributed to at my request which went down really well.
The stationery designer was my best friend and bridesmaid who owns bamboo London. Being such a close friend she managed to come up with an amazing design for the theme. It was echoed through all elements in the day from the toilet glitter station to the church order of service. They were perfect and all my friends have since used her for their weddings.
The favours were miniatures, mainly port as dan and I are keen poet drinkers, however some miniatures were personalised for guest to guest.
We had a curtain of fairy lights as the ceiling with drapes of organza. Lots of lavish gold ornaments and props picked up from charity shops, Mirrors, mimosa station. My favourite details were on the tables; a talented colleague painted a watercolour of my pets as table names, this matched with gold sprayed animals and dream catchers adorned the tables.
My dad walked me down the aisle. He was making me teary. I knew it was as much a big moment in his life as it was in mine. I will forever cherish that walk down with him.
Entertainment was really important to us. We wanted everyone to remember the day and have a great party. We had my cousins folk band play for our drinks reception, The King Driscolls. Fil Straughn sang throughout the meal which got everyone in high spirits. The evening we had a friend Hadley Ford sing a selection of songs, a DJ and Sarah Sax to play us some Ibiza tunes as the evening progressed we then had a couple of sets from MC Kie, this was a surprise to Dan who was loving life. Mc Kie was amazing! The whole day was amazing.
Our first dance was to Lana del ray summer time sadness. This was the song that dominated the Ibiza holiday where dan and I became a couple. It was perfect.
What was your favourite part of the day and why?
Such a hard one as it was all great. From the moment my dad saw me in my dress to being photographed amongst the bluebells. Not everything I had lined up went to plan but in the midst of it all you don’t remember the mistakes. I loved my bouquet created by my mum and I loved FiL and the atmosphere he created and by the end of the night MC Kie just added to the party vibe.
If you could impart any words of wisdom to others planning their wedding, what would they be?
All your hard work and planning does show. All the little details that slip through the net will not impact on your day. As long as you stay calm you and your partner will have the day of dreams no mater what obstacles get thrown your way.
