Everyone wants sunshine on their wedding day and I am absolutely not here to argue with that. But having photographed weddings through some of the hottest temperatures of 2026 I can tell you that there is a point where the heat starts working against you, and it's worth thinking about before the day arrives.
Ask your venue the right questions when you visit
Shade and air conditioning are the big ones and they're easy to overlook when you're falling in love with a venue on a mild spring viewing day. Does the reception space have air con, or at least good ventilation? Is there anywhere shaded in the grounds for guests to escape to during drinks? Can they put up parasols or extra awnings? These things make a genuine difference to how comfortable your guests feel on a very hot day, so it's worth asking before you book rather than after.
Handheld fans and parasols for your guests
One of my favourite little touches at a summer wedding and such a good practical idea. Get a good supply of them, put them on chairs or have them in a basket near the entrance, and if you want to personalise them with your names or wedding date that's a really cute detail too. Your guests will genuinely thank you.
Timing your photos around the heat
This is something I always talk through with couples when it's looking like a hot one. Group family photos I'll always try to get done earlier in the day because logistics make that harder to move, but bridal party photos and your couple portraits can absolutely wait until after dinner when the temperature has dropped and the light is honestly so much better anyway. Some of my favourite portraits from this summer have been taken in that cooler early evening window and the golden light you get then is just beautiful. Don't feel like everything has to happen in the middle of the afternoon.
Hydration stations everywhere
Sounds simple but make sure your venue has plenty of them and that they're topped up throughout the day. Guests who are well hydrated are happy guests.
A second outfit for the evening
This one is so underrated. An evening dress for you and a fresh shirt for your partner can completely transform how you both feel when the dancefloor kicks off. You've been in your wedding outfit all day in the heat, changing into something fresh makes such a difference and honestly the photos from the evening look great too.
